A Decade of Committment to Organic Principles

New Moon Farm was born a decade ago, with a dream and a 100 foot square garden plot. 2010 will mark a milestone for us, as we will be celebrating our tenth year of farming here in the piedmont region of North Carolina, using 100% organic methods. Over the past 10 years, we have achieved many of the goals we set for ourselves when we first returned to N. C. and the family farm, back in 1999. With the support of our family and many loyal customers, New Moon has expanded considerably from that original "kitchen garden" plot and into the active, thriving farm it is today.

Originally, our plan was to "homestead" the family farm, grow our own organic food and to live a simple and sustainable life. It was our goal was to become as self sufficient as possible and to live a sort of modern "pioneer" life here on the farm. Over the years, we have gone from growing organic food crops just for our family to growing heirloom and gourmet varieties, and making them available to our community. Our dedication to the principles and tenets of organic growing never waivered and we are proud of what we have accomplished over the last decade.

Next year, 2010, will bring a new set of challenges for New Moon Farm. In 2005, Dave was diagnosed with renal cancer and had his kidney removed. He was pronounced cancer free at that time. In October of 2008 the cancer returned and he is undergoing treatment at this time. The past year has been tough, but with the help of some incredibly generous people, who gave their time and support to the Farm in 2009, we had a pretty good season. Lots of weeds didn't get pulled and some crops didn't get planted, but in the end, we did just fine. No one can know what the future holds so we don't know what the next decade will bring. One thing we do know is that we plan on continuing to do what we do best... growing amazing, fresh and healthy food for ourselves and our neighbors.
